EYM TV is building a youth-led foundation supported by parents and community members to empower the next generation of storytellers, leaders, and media makers.
Our mission is to unite young voices and foster a sustainable future through
collaborative storytelling, hands-on media education, and meaningful community engagement. By helping youth navigate the intersection of tradition and technology, we amplify their collective voice and strengthen community ties.
EYM TV also works to address systemic barriers faced by underserved communities by:
• Reducing middle and high school dropout rates in low-income neighborhoods
• Improving students' grade point averages
• Expanding access to technology education and creative programming
• Increasing college acceptance rates for students from underrepresented backgrounds
• Encouraging active parent and guardian engagement with local resources

Bridging Community and Government
EYM TV empowers youth to become storytellers and changemakers by connecting cultural identity with modern media tools. Through our programs, young creators learn to honor their roots while using storytelling and civic media to shape a more inclusive and connected future.
We support middle and high school students by connecting them with mentors and professionals who inspire and guide their educational and creative journeys. For instance, a high school student interested in filmmaking might work with a local director who helps them create a short film, while also offering advice on high school electives, college prep, and media-related programs. A middle school student passionate about storytelling might be matched with a journalist who encourages them to write for the school paper or submit work to youth publications. These mentorships not only build media skills but also motivate students to stay focused in school and start thinking about their future pathways early on.
Our Mission and Partnerships
Ethio Youth Media TV is a non-profit organization committed to empowering
young people through media, education, and community engagement. We work closely with partners that support afterschool and summer programming, giving youth a safe, positive space to explore creativity, advocate for their communities, and grow as leaders.
Over the years, we’ve collaborated with the following organizations:
• Ethiopian Community Mutual Association (ECMA): Provides cultural and
community-based support to Ethiopian youth and families, helping us
engage with the community more effectively.
• Seattle Parks & Recreation: Offers access to safe, inclusive public spaces and
facilities where our youth media programs can thrive.
• MMRTI (Media, Marketing & Research Training Institute): Partners with us on media training, equipment sharing, and technical mentorship.
• U.S. Embassy American Spaces Program (Addis Ababa): Supports crosscultural media exchange and global citizenship through virtual and in-person initiatives.
• 4Culture: Offers funding and support for youth-led cultural media projects
that celebrate diversity and community heritage.
These valued partnerships allow us to expand our programs, reach underserved youth, and create long-lasting impact in our community.
Our History and Programming
Founded in 2001, Ethio Youth Media TV began regular programming on SCAN TV in 2004. We have since expanded our services to address issues that significantly impact young people in the immigrant community. Our programming focuses on teaching young individuals how to be a voice by equipping them with the media skills to become future community leaders.
In additional EYM TV’s goal is to raise the educational, economic and social levels of ethnically disadvantage individuals in targeted communities by assisting in the development of academic and educational opportunities; provide technical assistance, training consultation to targeted populations to enter and advance in professional local and commercial Multimedia Markets.
